PRAIRIES OF FEVER

In this experimental modernist novel, young schoolteacher Muhammad Hammad lives as an expatriate in Al-Qunfudhah, a bleak and isolating desert village on the Arabian Peninsula. His quiet existence shatters when five mysterious, featureless men arrive at his door to demand payment for his own funeral. Trapped in a surreal state of living death, Hammad’s reality further unravels when his identical roommate and double vanishes, leaving Hammad accused of the man's murder. Written in a fluid, poetic style that blurs the boundaries of time, memory, and hallucination, the narrative follows Hammad’s desperate search for his missing double and his struggle to preserve his sanity and identity amidst a hostile and indifferent environment.
