The River: A novel
During an idyllic wilderness canoe trip on the remote Maskwa River in northern Canada, college best friends Wynn and Jack find their peaceful journey disrupted by a rapidly spreading forest fire. The situation escalates when they overhear a heated argument on a fog-shrouded riverbank, only to cross paths with the husband paddling alone the following day. Suspecting foul play, the two friends search and rescue the man's severely injured, abandoned wife. Facing a treacherous landscape, the pair must navigate dangerous white water rapids, the encroaching wildfire, and the deadly threat of human violence in a high-stakes battle for survival. This novel serves as the introduction of protagonist Jack, whose story continues in the sequel, The Guide.
